As insurers increasingly automate routine tasks in pursuit of efficiency, the industry faces a more complex question of how to ensure early career professionals still develop the technical judgement and risk expertise that cannot be automated

For decades, the career path for a fledgling underwriter or broker was a predictable climb. It began with what might politely be called “grunt work”; manually reviewing standard slips, cross-referencing policy wordings and performing the repetitive risk analysis that slowly built a professional’s muscle memory.
