Maritime Risk International

Risk management

The Indian Register of Shipping has launched a ship drift trajectory prediction service, designed to strengthen maritime risk management and enhance emergency response planning for disabled vessels. Developed in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, the programme predicts the drift paths of vessels that have lost propulsion power. The service enables maritime authorities and emergency response teams to plan and execute search and rescue operations with greater precision and speed. The predictive capability is invaluable in preventing groundings, avoiding collisions with marine infrastructure or coastal facilities and rerouting nearby vessels to ensure navigational safety.
