Moody’s tallies $42bn in US severe convective storm losses so far this year

Average insured loss per storm exceeds $1bn

US severe convective storms (SCS) caused insured losses of $42bn in the first nine months of 2025, with the average loss from each storm spiking sharply, according to Moody’s.
