Re/insurers warn of climate tipping point
Leading players in the global re/insurance sector agree with the head of the United Nations that the world is
unlikely to meet one of the major goals of the Paris Agreement. Countries had agreed to substantially reduce global greenhouse gas emissions to enable an increase in long-term global average
surface temperature to be kept well below 2°C (above pre-industrial levels) and pursue efforts to limit it to 1.5°C. Should
the world miss the 1.5°C target, insurance experts warn the industry could struggle to provide adequate protection against
worsening risks.
