Countries fail to implement directive

The European Commission is to take France, Luxembourg, Italy, the Republic of Ireland and Portugal to the European Court of Justice over failure to implement the European Union’s Fourth Motor Insurance Directive. The UK and Greece avoided the same fate by implementing the directive after a legal final warning letter from the European Commission after missing last year’s deadline. The five countries above failed to respond to the letter in time. The directive is designed to make it easier and cheaper to obtain compensation for injuries sustained while visiting another EU member state.
