Carbon Tracker report on regulators

Key findings and points of interest

Carbon Tracker has published a series of reports based on the findings of reviews of the financial statement reporting of the most carbon-polluting companies in the world, and the corresponding audit reports on those statements. Specifically, the reviewers are seeking to understand the extent to which companies and auditors have taken climate risk into consideration. A recent report focused on the role of regulators and the analysis shows a clear relationship between the quality of reporting and the extent of regulatory interest and activity in the area. This article sets out the key findings and points of interest in the report. A separate report on the role of auditors is covered in "Are audit reports transparent about climate risk?" (WAR, May 2025).
