Food container compound damages eggs

Scientists have discovered that bisphenol A (BPA), a compound found in plastic food containers, damages the eggs of mice. According to a study reported in Nature magazine, BPA acts like oestrogen and damages unfertilised eggs. The study suggested that humans are exposed to similar amounts of BPA as the mice in the study, through contact with plastic food containers, but it is not clear whether humans are affected in the same way as the mice.
