New Maternity Inquiry announced by the Government
In a recent development, the Health and Social Care Secretary, Wes Streeting, has announced the establishment of a new national
maternity inquiry in England. This will take the form of a rapid national investigation into NHS maternity and neonatal services.
Over the past 15 years, it has become increasingly apparent that in many areas maternity and neonatal care have been substandard
and that there have been unnecessary deaths and injuries to mothers and babies as a result of systemic failings. The inquiry
will take evidence from parents, clinicians and experts and a National Maternity and Neonatal task force is to be introduced.
