Jail term for drivers on phone

The Sentencing Advisory Panel has recommended a five year jail term for drivers who kill whilst using a mobile phone. The Panel said that death by dangerous driving should carry a custodial sentence of five years, rising to a maximum of 10 years for when more than one person is killed or where the offender has driven with complete disregard for the safety of other road users and where other aggravating features are present. The Panel said that the use of a mobile phone whilst driving will be considered an aggravating feature.
