Increasing extreme weather events and changes in global weather patterns present a challenge for shipping, as Britannia P&I Club's loss prevention team explains

Predicting or explaining how weather patterns will change in future is difficult thanks to the complexity of global weather systems. Research continues to show an apparent increase in the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events. In general these changes in weather patterns will create challenges for all stakeholders in shipping and will likely require many adaptations to operating procedures, along with changes to ship and equipment design, to allow continued safe and efficient operations.
