Judicial sale

6.1 Introduction

Courts in most jurisdictions have the authority to order the sale of a ship to satisfy maritime claims listed in Article 1.1 of the Arrest Conventions 1952 and 1999 or those recognized by the law of the state where the arrest and judicial sale are taking place. The judicial sale procedure often follows the ship's arrest and focuses on executing a judgment or arbitral award.
