Carriage of passengers

10.1 Introduction

Carriage of passengers by sea is a relatively new part of maritime law. There was no great need for passenger carriages in the past because of underdeveloped communications between different parts of the world. Another factor was the low safety of maritime transport. Once upon a time, ships were not comfortable places even for mariners, and certainly not for passengers since their primary purpose was trade.
