4.1 Introduction

4.1. The judicial sale of a ship2 is the usual terminus ad quem of an admiralty proceeding in rem, at least where no satisfactory alternative security has been provided, which will usually be the case where the shipowner is insolvent or has no P&I Club cover for some other reason.3
