Group action on holiday faults
The number of group actions over holiday problems has increased over recent years, the largest to date made up of 625 claimants
targeted JMC Holidays, in 1998, for illness stemming from a stay at a Majorcan hotel. Most of these are now settled. Food
poisoning and illness caused by poor pool hygiene are the most frequent causes of claim, and many end up in court as the mediation
services of ABTA are often seen as unacceptable due to its funding by tour operators and travel agents, clouding apparent
independence.
