AIG pays Olympic-related costs

National Union Fire, a unit of AIG, has paid US$4mn to reimburse the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics committee’s costs in defence of federal charges of bribery. The committee had launched legal action against the insurer last year alleging ‘manoeuvres to avoid its obligations.’ The reimbursement has now been agreed, the original charge dismissed but a US justice department appeal against the dismissal due for hearing in September.
