Railtrack to fund Potters Bar compensation – pro tem
While the Health & Safety investigation continues and liability not yet allocated between three possible culprits for the
seven-dead, 67-injured rail crash at Potters Bar in May, Railtrack has taken an initiative it says will avoid further delay
for victims. In other rail crashes the rail industry was able to accept liability and sort out which department was responsible
later but Potters Bar involved three completely separate entities. Allocating liability could be fraught with argument as,
even though Jarvis as contractor on site was clearly involved, there could be questions as to whether Railtrack should have
subcontracted maintenance and the level of its supervision of Jarvis’s work.
