Partial safety of blood

The National Blood Service has announced its intention of supplying fresh frozen plasma, cleansed with a methylene blue stain process, for newborn babies and young children. This is safer than untreated plasma which can spread hepatitis and HIV infection among recipients, usually from donors in the early and unknowing stages of infection.
