Webbers falls bridge collision

Magnolia Marine Transport, owner of the barge that caused the collapse of an Interstate 40 bridge in Oklahoma, is seeking to limit its liability. This through petition to federal court to apply the maritime Limitation of Liability Act which provides that where a company is able to prove an accident was not caused by negligence, its liability can be limited to the value of the boat involved. This piece of maritime law was enacted in the 1800s to encourage investment in shipping.
