Mid-Atlantic piracy

The crew of an unnamed product tanker has been robbed by pirates in the middle of the Atlantic, according to the ICC International Maritime Bureau. The crew was uninjured and the pirates fled after taking money and some of the ship's property. The report stated that 10 armed pirates carrying AK-47 rifles boarded the vessel when it was underway about 363 nm south-south-west of the Cape Verde islands. Security experts noted that that this was beyond the normal operating range of Gulf of Guinea pirates. Cape Verde islands officials said that they were investigating.
