New recommendations to protecting seafarers from violence and harassment

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) have adopted a list of comprehensive and coordinated recommendations aimed at protecting seafarers from violence and harassment. These include amendments to the ILO Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 (MLC, 2006), in line with the ILO Violence and Harassment Convention, 2019 (No 190), new IMO mandatory training for seafarers, and additional IMO guidance for shipowners.
