Insurers withdraw from detention centre cover

Following the extensive damage to the Yarl’s Wood immigration centre, and with insurers’ claim against the police outstanding, Lloyd’s syndicate 962, which provides cover for Group 4, has introduced a £10mn ceiling on cover. Limits and possible full market withdrawal are likely to force the government to cover any future loss at its detention centres.
