Railtrack criticised for five-year delay in settlement

with 10 accident victims who eventually won £1.5mn in compensation. Mr Justice Mackay criticised the delay of Railtrack and the company responsible for carrying out safety audits in admitting liability for the death of one and the injury of 17 postal workers in a 1996 collision near Stafford as ‘unreasonable to a high degree’. The two companies face legal costs of near £1mn.
