Marine market reacts to Sudan fighting

The London insurance market's Joint War Committee has met to consider the situation in Sudan and has added Sudan to its "Listed Areas", meaning shipowners will have to inform their insurers if they plan to call at Sudanese ports. Neil Roberts, head of marine and aviation at Lloyd's Market Association, said that Joint War Committee members "noted the unpredictability of the fighting, the increasing possibility of it becoming a prolonged conflict, and the imminent potential for deterioration. As a precaution, it was agreed to add Sudan to the Listed Areas (JWLA-031). Where incorporated on policies, those ships will have to advise insurers if they plan to call at Sudanese ports."
