European court rules on night flights
Compensation to local residents for disturbance suffered from night flights could cost between £400mn and £2bn (according
to decibel level set as threshold) following a ruling of the European Court of Human Rights in
Hatton v United Kingdom.
Holding that loss of sleep violated their rights to ‘respect for private and family life’, eight Londoners (part of the HACAN
Clearskies action group) were each awarded £4,000 in October.
