Negligence in obstetrics and midwifery
An independent review into Maternity Services in Nottingham University NHS Trust has been opened.
An independent review into Maternity Services in Nottingham University NHS Trust has been opened officially by Donna Ockenden,
who has previously led a review into maternity services in Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust between 2000 and 2019
which was published in March 2022, covering 1,592 clinical incidents. That review concluded that there were systematic failings
on the part of staff at the Trust which had resulted in extremely serious consequences for mothers, babies and families. The
findings were that there were 295 avoidable baby deaths or brain damage as a direct result of poor maternity care, and that
nine mothers had died as a result of avoidable poor care.
