6.1 Unmanned aircraft systems

Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), commonly known as “drones”, can be defined as arrangements for an aircraft to operate autonomously or to be flown without a pilot on board.3 An unmanned aircraft system consists of the unmanned aerial vehicle itself (the UAV), a remote control station and a datalink between the UAV and the control station.
