Pandemic to cause wave of new referrals for post-traumatic stress disorder

There could be 230,000 new referrals for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) across England between 2020/21 and 2022/23 as a direct or indirect result of the pandemic, according to expert modelling forecasts from the Strategy Unit, a specialist NHS team. Other academic studies suggest that 35 per cent of Covid-19 patients put on a ventilator and 40 per cent of intensive care staff report symptoms of PTSD.
