Pressure on employers to disclose data

The Trades Union Congress (TUC) is considering legal action under the new data protection code to force employers to allow individual members of staff to see any information held on them. According to the TUC, this is to end ‘one of the big difficulties unions have in tribunals where employers tend to spring things on them at the last minute.’ They may also use the code to challenge ‘excessive snooping’ on employees’ emails and use of the internet.
