Pressure on employers to disclose data
The Trades Union Congress (TUC) is considering legal action under the new data protection code to force employers to allow
individual members of staff to see any information held on them. According to the TUC, this is to end ‘one of the big difficulties
unions have in tribunals where employers tend to spring things on them at the last minute.’ They may also use the code to
challenge ‘excessive snooping’ on employees’ emails and use of the internet.
