Methane investigation
Following evidence from specialist mine gas extractors Octagon Energy and Alkane Energy suggesting that the investigations
of the Watt Committee on Energy (1994) have ‘grossly underestimated’ the impact of methane emissions on local communities
and the environment, the government is to set up a fresh investigation into gas leakage from disused mines.
