PARAMOUNT SUES CHUBB FOR MISSION IMPOSSIBLE SHUTDOWNS

Paramount Pictures is suing US insurer Chubb in a coverage dispute over Covid-19-related losses during the filming of Hollywood blockbuster Mission Impossible 7. The suit, filed in California federal court on Monday, claims that Chubb subsidiary Federal Insurance Company, had refused to pay for Covid-19 shutdowns in full under a film production policy. Paramount is claiming for losses incurred during the filming of Mission Impossible 7 under a ‘cast insurance’ policy, which has a $100m coverage limit. Production was delayed seven times between February 2020 and June 2021, at least six of which were the result of Covid-19 infections or government restrictions. According to the suit, Chubb had agreed to pay $5m for the first shutdown in February 2020, but has denied further claims.
