State Farm wins US$8mn
Just before launch of suit for damages under the racketeering RICO Act, insurer
State Farm won an out-of-court settlement of US$8mn. A first of its kind, the action targeted a fraud ring that staged motor accidents
in the Chicago area; participants included lawyers, medical providers and ‘accident’ organisers. Similar suits are pending
across the US.
