Not only private pension problems

The Public Accounts Committee has criticised the Department of Social Security (DSS) for carrying out ‘virtually no publicity’ to changes in the state earnings-related pension scheme (SERPS), enacted in 1986 and due for operation earlier this year. The change cut by half the SERPS-related part of pensions for a surviving spouse.
