Exxon appeal rejected

The US Supreme Court has rejected an appeal by Exxon Mobil Corp against the US$5bn punitive damages awarded in a civil action brought by Alaskan fishermen and others following the 1989 oil spill. The appeal had cited the alleged misconduct of a court bailiff, which could have led to prejudice.
