Road deaths update
The latest Europe-wide statistics show a downward trend in fatalities in 1999, but an increase in injuries. Of 16 European
countries covered, nine reported a fall in the number of deaths and seven an increase. The most dangerous roads continue to
be those of France, Spain and Greece; eastern European roads are also more perilous than many.
