Daily Digest: Light ahead for Aon-Willis merger, Elsa losses, Insurers pledge net zero underwriting
Light at the end of the tunnel for Aon-Willis merger?
Insurance Day news editor Marc Jones says there are
signs the regulatory logjams are starting to ease. The decision by the European Commission to give conditional permission for the merger last week will have been greeted by
both Aon and Willis Towers Watson with sighs of relief. And now the New Zealand Competition Commission (NZCC) has announced
it is looking over a list of divestments submitted by the companies. However, the elephant in the room remains the US Department
of Justice (DoJ) lawsuit to stop the merger, which at present is not even due to be discussed in court until November – and
even then the judge in charge of the case has already said he has a full casebook and a December or even January date might
be more likely.
