LIBERTY MUTUAL NAMES SWEENEY AS PRESIDENT
US property/casualty group Liberty Mutual Insurance has appointed Tim Sweeney as president to oversee its three business units, Global Risk Solutions, Global Retail Markets and Liberty Mutual Investments. Reporting directly to Liberty Mutual chairman and chief executive David Long, Sweeney succeeds Dennis Langwell, who is retiring at the end of the year after 26 years with the company. Langwell will serve in an advisory role as vice-chairman of Liberty Mutual insurance operations until his departure. Sweeney previously served as president of Global Retail Markets. In that post, he will be succeeded by Jim MacPhee, who will oversee the group’s retail insurance business. MacPhee previously served as president and chief operating officer of Global Retail Markets in the US. In other moves, Neeti Bhalla Johnson has been named president of Global Risk Solutions to oversee the group’s commercial and specialty business. She previously served as president and chief investment officer of Liberty Mutual Investments. In that post, she will be succeeded by Vlad Barbalat.
