Bar Council calls for NHS to recoup crash costs
A report from the Bar Council urges wider powers for health and local authorities to recover, from those responsible, the
costs of treating victims of accidents. The power of recoupment brought in in November 1999 was flawed – applicable to private
health companies, a legal loophole hinders NHS and local authorities. If the recommendations – similar to those of the Law
Commission – are carried through, claims for treatment costs could be brought with the victims’ compensation claims.
