Non-mandatory airbags

The US Supreme Court has ruled that car manufacturers cannot be sued for failing to install safety devices before the inclusion of airbags became mandatory in 1998. This ruling prevents some hundreds of personal injury suits aiming to hold manufacturers liable under state law.
