Covid-19 vaccine proposal declined during TRIPS meeting

Proposal consensus failed to be agreed; UK says proposal ‘would be counterproductive and would undermine a regime that offers solutions to the issues at hand’

A proposal from India and South Africa to waive certain IP rights to ease access to Covid-19 vaccines has been rejected during the latest Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) council meeting, as members failed to gain consensus in the proposal.
