Loss and demurrage

In K Line v Priminds, Andrew Baker J had the opportunity “to resolve a long-standing uncertainty on a point of law of significance in a particular field of commerce”. The issue was whether a shipowner under a voyage charterparty is entitled to claim damages for any other type of loss, in addition to its contractual right to demurrage, as a result of the charterer’s failure to load or discharge cargo within the laytime.
