Regulation’s role in supporting the economy during Covid-19 – a global take
The global Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. Economic health is not
usually the remit of the regulators; in a true free market regulation can inhibit growth, as its primary function is to protect
market participants and the end consumer. But the pandemic has created an abnormal economic environment and across the world
governments and regulators have approached this problem differently.
