A critical evaluation of the UN Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation 2019
The UN Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation 2019, to promote mediation as an effective
method of settling inter-state disputes, was adopted in Singapore on 7 August 2019, hence the name the Singapore Convention
on Mediation. This Convention was co-organised the UN Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) and the Ministry of
Law, Singapore. Forty-six countries signed the Convention on the first day which should be considered an encouraging sign
of the determination to resort to mediation for settlement of their disputes – which may arise under commercial contracts.
