The evolving interpretation of the European Central Bank’s mandate after the crisis
In the aftermath of the global financial crisis of 2008, the president of the European Central Bank (ECB), Mario Draghi, stated:
“Within our mandate, the ECB is ready to do whatever it takes to preserve the euro, and believe me it will be enough.” However,
seven years have passed since Draghi made his pledge, and still the crisis is not entirely over.
