LORENZO PROMPTS HURRICANE WARNING IN CENTRAL AND WESTERN AZORES
The Portuguese Institute for the Sea and the Atmosphere on Monday issued a hurricane warning for the central and western Azores
with the approach of hurricane Lorenzo. The warning means that the islands of Flores, Corvo, Faial, Pico, Sao Jorge, Graciosa
and Terceira are expected to see hurricane conditions by late Tuesday or early Wednesday. The institute also issued a tropical
storm warning for the eastern Azores islands of Sao Miguel and Santa Maria. Late Monday, Lorenzo was centred around 965 miles
west/southwest of the Azores, moving north/northeast at 15 mph with sustained Category 2 winds of 105 mph.
