There are more than 250 offshore installations, 250 subsea production systems, 3,000 pipelines and approximately 5,000 wells offshore on the UK Continental Shelf. While a principal objective of the UK government is to maximise the economic recovery of UK petroleum, including through the use and extension of existing offshore assets, ultimately these assets will be decommissioned.
