STORM SURGE AND RAINFALL REMAIN MAJOR CONCERN

Storm surge of up to 23 feet was projected for parts of the Bahamas, and up to 7 feet for parts of Florida. Rainfall accumulations are projected to be up to 30 inches in the Bahamas, 15 inches in the coastal Carolinas and 9 inches along the coast of Florida and Georgia. The NHC said this morning that hurricane conditions are expected in the hurricane warning area of Florida by later tonight, with surge-related flooding depending on how close the centre of Dorian comes to Florida’s East Coast. The NHC said the prolonged period of catastrophic winds and storm surge will continue to impact Grand Bahama and the Abaco Islands for several more hours.
