Simon Bennett, deputy secretary general, International Chamber of Shipping, examines the IMO’s Initial Strategy on the Reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Ships

The Initial Strategy on the Reduction of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions from Ships, adopted by the IMO in April 2018 established ambitious targets – including the phasing out of GHG emissions “as soon as possible this century” and reducing annual GHG emissions from international shipping by 50 per cent by 2050, when compared to those of 2008.
