Medical device regulation: patient safety second to commercial interests

The government has acknowledged that patient safety has come second to commercial interests in medical device regulation, according to Thompsons Solicitors. Health and Social Care minister, Jackie Doyle-Price, said that there had been a significant failure in the regulation of medical devices and noted a lack of transparency from doctors who failed to properly warn patients of the risks these devices present, in particular in women with vaginal mesh implants.
