US legal system cost US$429 billion in 2016

The cost and compensation paid in the US tort system totalled US$429 billion, or 2.3 per cent of the US gross domestic product (GDP), in 2016, according to a new report released by the US Chamber Institute for Legal Reform (ILR), providing “a stark reminder of the deep structural flaws in America’s tort system, both at the national level and from state to state.”
