Personal technology aboard ships: a risk to seafarers’ health?
Richard Stevens, at The Standard Club, discusses the risks posed by seafarer access to improved communications
There is little doubt that developments in technology in the last two decades have brought about a revolution in the way individuals
communicate. Anyone in possession of a smartphone or tablet, and within the vicinity of a mobile phone or wi-fi network, is
able – quite literally – to see, hear, and talk to friends or family across the entire world in a matter of moments. Clearly
the benefits of these developments; such as bringing people close together, enhancing the speed of communication, and the
improvements to commerce and industry cannot be exaggerated.
